The Oil Spot (You Dian) glaze is one of the most iconic and sought-after effects in Jian ware tradition. This bowl features countless metallic iron crystals scattered across the surface, resembling droplets of oil floating on dark water. In natural light, the spots reveal a brilliant silver sheen; when tilted, they subtly shift between silver, steel-blue, and warm ochre—a hallmark of high-quality reduction firing.
